Meet the team

Alistair James BDS MSc MFGDP.RCS

GDC Number: 68106

Alistair graduated from Birmingham University In 1992 and has then worked in a couple of hospital jobs in Dentistry before settling on a career in General Practice.
He has worked in Tipton, Wolverhampton, Tamworth and Burton on Trent.

Currently Alistair splits his time between practice and work at the Birmingham Dental Hospital and School.

At the University of Birmingham Dental school Alistair is a clinical lecturer in both Dentistry and also teaches sedation techniques to the undergraduates.

He has a keen interest in research both based in the hospital environment and General practice, and has published papers of his research.

He is also a member of the PREP panel (Product Research and Evaluation by Practitioners) in which the latest materials are tested and evaluated. www.preppanel.com

Alistair also holds the post of speciality Dentist Restorative dentistry at Birmingham Dental hospital which involves the restoration of complex Dental needs using a variety of clinical techniques. such as implants, crowns and bridges and root canal therapy. Alistair’s special interests are dental implantology, surgical endodontics and bone preservation techniques as well as conventional endodontics.

A further interest is occlusion and the treatment of TMJ dysfunction syndrome and myofacial pain induced by occlusion. For the treatment of this, a variety of methods are used such as bite adjustment, mouth splints, dental reconstruction and acupuncture. Outside dentistry Alistair has two children and is currently joint head coach at Sutton Coldfield Junior Hockey club and to relax enjoys a wide range of outdoor pursuits.

Samantha Duncan

Sam graduated from Birmingham University in 1995.

Samantha then worked in general practice in Rugby and Tamworth before joining Stapenhill Dental Care in 2007.

Sam treats a wide variety of patients but particularly enjoys treating those who are nervous and anxious about dental treatment. Sam’s calm and caring nature helps patients overcome their fear of visiting the dentist.

Outside of dentistry Sam enjoys keeping fit, baking and is a keen reader who can always recommend a good book.

Sam regularly participates in mud run challenges in order to raise funds for her favourite charities.

Pavandeep Kaur BSc Hons, BDS Hons.

Pavandeep or ‘Pav’ as she likes to be called, initially completed a Batchelor of Science Degree in biomedical science in 2016.

She then decided to move to Lancashire to study dentistry at Lancashire University. In 2021 Pav graduated and earned her Batchelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) Degree.

After gaining her dental degree Pav undertook two years working in Birmingham Dental Hospital to further enhance her skills in restorative dentistry and oral surgery.

Pav is passionate about her work, providing high quality care to her patients and is always seeking to improve her skills.

In her free time, Pav enjoys travelling and exploring the world.

Michelle Cadd

Practice Manager

Michelle or ‘Shelly’ as we all know her as, is likely to be the smiling face who greets you when you visit the practice or when you speak to us on the phone.

Shelly is often the person looking after you in reception and making sure that your experience with us is a positive one. As our practice manager she oversees the smooth running of the practice which ensures everyone else is able to concentrate on what they do best. If you have any queries, concerns or suggestions Shelly would be delighted to hear from you.

Shelly has work in dentistry for the past 25 years and was initially Alistair’s nurse, she is therefore well equipped to answer any questions you have. She has worked in the fields of general dentistry, implant placement and implant restoration, facial aesthetics and cosmetic dentistry.

You will find that Shelly enjoys chatting to our patients and will give you a very warm welcome.

Jodie Mahoney

Hygienist/Therapist

Jodie has been working in dentistry since 2004, firstly qualifying as a dental nurse and then later attending Sheffield university to study Dental Hygiene and Therapy, graduating in the summer of 2009. She has a passion for prevention and delivering the best possible care to her patients.

After gaining experience in both private and NHS primary care, Jodie went on to further her career in teaching and mentoring. She gained her Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education from the University of Dundee in 2017 whilst teaching Undergraduate students at the University of Birmingham. One of Jodie’s main roles is leading the Midlands Dental Therapy Foundation Training Programme, which involves looking after the new graduates as they venture into practice life.

She also provides educational courses to Dental Professionals in and around the Midlands region and also sits on the GDC’s Fitness to practice panel.

Jodie has recently gained her Fellowship with the Faculty of Dental Trainers for her contributions to Dental Education so far, in her career.

When she isn’t looking after teeth, Jodie enjoys time with her young family, adventuring in the great outdoors!
